  ABOUT US - Our History

My Father sold Buick's in Louisiana for over 30 years. Ever since I was a young and impressionable I have been around and exposed to the automotive industry. Essentially, I was raised in and around cars and the automotive industry and have always been interested in the auto performance industry.

I became interested in performance when I was a young-un and proceeded to terrorize the streets of Lafayette, La. in my "Throw-down" 1957 Buick Century and my Mother's 1965 Buick Skylark GS.

It was this period of enlightenment that helped forge and ignite the flame and desire to become active in drag racing. BUT, like so many of us all I accomplished was joining the ever-growing ranks of - the financially impaired Hot Rodder. Racing had to take a back burner - for awhile.

After high school I was fortunate to marry my high school sweetheart Janace, joined the Air Force, had two [2] beautiful children, graduated from college, and then moved to Houston, TX. Janace and I would have to save up for weeks to save enough money [in the military then] to afford a set of spark plugs and entry fees to take my O/S Skylark to the local drag strips.

I retired from my racing interest in the mid 1970's until the early 1980's when I read an article about the GSCA Nationals and the first Chuck Green Musclecar Shootout.

    I WAS RUINED!!!

    I HAD TO HAVE IT!!

With Janace's blessing we acquired the several toys:

"GREEN"
1973 GS 455 Stage I
13.30's
"GRAY"
1972 GS 455 Stage I
14.50's
"SEXY-X"
1970 GSX 455 Stage I
12.30's
"BLACK"
1986 Buick GN
14.7's and
growing …

I once again got the race bug. We jumped into the Muscle Car Shootout frenzy and actively campaigned "SEXY-X" at several events with some success.

Then one day I got a call from a friend of mine telling me about some kind of new Buick that was out and was supposed to be fast, (and Black). A V-6 turbo no less.

Little did I know at that time that this would be one of the defining moments that would change our lives completely.

FATE plays many tricks on us mortals throughout our lives.

In early 1986 I was working in New Jersey. For recreation we would take "X" (our 1970 GSX 455 Stage I) up to Front Street in Philadelphia for some REAL street action. For track actions we played at Cecil County Raceway and ATCO.

One night at ATCO there were a couple of bad, black Buick GN's tearing up the asphalt. - They were running HI-13's!!! Totally impressed, I walked up to the driver of one of the black bullets and sheepishly ask - What have you done to this to make it so fast? - He stated sarcastically - Hey man, I'm stock!!

Little did he or I know that night that our paths would cross for many years to come. That was the first of many encounters that I would have with Jimmy D'Allesandro. Jimmy and I have been butting heads ever since. Our intense rivalry over the years has helped push both of us to higher and higher levels of performance.

Then, one summer day in early 1986 Janace, the kids and I visited Evangeline Motors in Lafayette, LA. and before we knew it we ended up proudly driving away "Black", our brand new 1986 Buick GN. (Without even a test drive!) Black had a humble beginning. Performance levels in the high 14.'s @ 96 mph.

The second defining moment in our automotive life was at our second GSCA nationals.

We walked around in awe surrounded by so many fine Buicks and their friendly, HELPFUL owners. We became acquainted with Paul Schindell. The proud owner of an 86 nitrous powered GN. He had the fastest GN at the Nats.

After the event I called Paul long distance and spent MANY minutes discussing GN performance. Paul's gracious telephone "Tweaking" and unselfish sharing of information was the third defining moment in our automotive life. The information that he provided was implemented and that started Black's transformation from a 14 second WOOSE to a force to be reckoned with.

The fourth defining moment in our automotive life was at our third GSCA Nationals. - Someone put up $100 for a "Heads Up GN Class". That was the FIRST heads-up class at the GSCA. We won the event with outstanding mid-13 second performance!! That was unheard of at that time!!

That was the beginning. GN owners began contacting us for GN & Buick performance information, parts, and services. Thus the birth of "Conley's Performance Plus". "CPP" started innocently enough with a desk, two [2] stack bins (parts in & parts out), one chair and a phone in our dining room.

That was many, many years ago. Since then CPP has been on the leading edge of the GN/T performance industry for over 12 years. Our products have been successfully developed, tested, raced and marketed to satisfied customers worldwide.
